Chilango is a word used on Mexican slang to refer to a person from Mexico City like me. I decided to make this print as a homage to my city and since one of my favorite things about the city are the street markets that is why I decided to use this photograph as a background. A monotype in printmaking is a technique that generally yields only one good impression from each prepared plate. Monotypes are prized because of their unique textural qualities. They are made by drawing on glass or a plate of smooth metal or stone with a greasy substance such as printer's ink or oil paint. For this monotype I used the xerox litho process which works by transferring a photo or a drawing, as you can see in the prints below with a monotype is difficult to get the exact image or texture every time and this makes each print unique.
